On June 19th, he made his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs. Zack batted.186/.307/.349 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 27 games.
For part of 2020, he was back with the White Sox as the team’s third catcher behind Yasmani Grandal and James McCann, which was necessary because one or the other was frequently in the lineup as the designated hitter.
He appeared in nine games but only went 1 for 16 in them. He also got one at-bat in the postseason, striking out in Chicago’s Wild Card Series loss to the Oakland Athletics.
After McCann’s departure in 2021, he became Grandal’s backup, with rookie sensation Yermin Mercedes serving as the DH and emergency third baseman.
On April 14th, he led pitcher Carlos Rodon to a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians in only his 15th career start behind the plate.
This was not a world record, but it was still a remarkable achievement. He ended up appearing in 78 games, hitting .210 with four home runs and 26 RBIs. He did not play in the postseason this year.
He was transferred to the Toronto Blue Jays on April 3, 2022, just as the season was about to begin, in exchange for Reese McGuire, another back-up catcher who had formerly been a first-round draftee.
