Sergio Romo was born to Mexican parents in Brawley, California. He was a lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers supporter. Both his father and grandpa were baseball players, and his grandfather belonged to the Mexico City Diablos Rojos.
Frank who is his dad and a semi-pro baseball player, was unable to play in Minor League Baseball due to work obligations, and he wanted to ensure that his son had the same opportunity.
He taught Sergio how to throw and built him a pitching mound in the backyard. Romo graduated in 2001 from Brawley Union High School where he played shortstop and third base for the baseball team.
