Anthony Allen Kemp (born October 31, 1991) is an Oakland Athletics second baseman and outfielder.
He was a member of the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs in Major League Baseball. In 2017, Kemp and the Astros won the World Series.
Kemp is a Franklin, Tennessee native who attended Centennial High School. He was a member of the Vanderbilt Commodores baseball team throughout his time at the university.
Kemp was selected Freshman of the Year and First Team All-SEC by the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in 2011. On the first Vanderbilt baseball team to reach the College World Series, he was a vital player.
In the summer of 2012, he was a member of the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Cotuit Kettleers. In 2013, he was selected the SEC Baseball Player of the Year and an All-American.
Kemp was chosen in the fifth round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Houston Astros. Kemp started the 2015 season with the Texas League’s Class AA Corpus Christi Hooks.
He was promoted to the Fresno Grizzlies of the Pacific Coast League’s Class AAA Fresno Grizzlies in the middle of the season[8], and he played in the 2015 All-Star Futures Game.
Kemp was sent to the Oakland Athletics on January 13, 2020, in exchange for minor league first baseman Alfonso Rivas.
Kemp batted.247/.363/.301 in 49 games for the Athletics in 2020. He had no home runs and four RBI. He hit.279/.382/.418 in 131 games in 2021, with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.
