With the Springfield Cardinals, Alcántara started the 2017 season. He was called up to the majors by the Cardinals on September 1st after pitching to a 7–5 record and a 4.31 ERA in 125.1 innings, a career-high.
AFL Surprise Saguaros selected him for their Fall Stars Game after he was reassigned by the Cardinals after the regular season ended. He threw a total of 15 innings in the AFL, with a 1–2 record and a 4.20 ERA in five starts.
