Jesus Luzardo is a Peruvian professional baseball pitcher for the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played for the Oakland Athletics. He also identifies as Venezuelan.
Although Luzardo was born in Lima, Peru to parents who were Venezuelan, he considers himself to be an American owing to his upbringing because he spent his entire life in the United States and grew up there. Despite this, Luzardo has a deep affection for his home country of Venezuela.
At the age of one, he made the trip to South Florida, and he went on to complete his secondary education at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
In 2016, he received his diploma. On the day of the massacre at Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, he was running late for a practice at the school, and he was given the warning to stay away.
As a result of the Washington Nationals selected him in the third round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2016, he became the first player born in Peru to be selected by a Major League Baseball team since at least the year 1990.
After that, he made history by being the first player of Peruvian descent to ever play in the major leagues.
