The Miami Marlins selected pitcher Trevor Rogers with the 13th overall choice in the 2017 amateur draft.

He signed for a $3.4 million bonus, although he didn’t start pitching professionally until the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League in 2018.

He had a record of 2-7, 5.82 in 17 starts, giving up 48 runs on 86 hits over 72 2/3 innings. With 85 strikeouts and 27 walks, he did manage to compile a respectable K/W ratio.

The Hickory Crawdads were defeated by him on July 29th, 2-1, when he held a no-hitter until two were out in the eighth inning and struck out 12 batters.

In the midst of a fantastic group of young starting pitchers who had shockingly kept the Marlins in contention, he made his major league debut toward the end of the 2020 campaign.

He had a record of 1-2, 6.11 in his seven starts, but he still fanned an amazing 39 batters over 28 innings.

He only pitched once in the postseason, pitching 1 2/3 innings in relief in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves, allowing 3 runs (2 earned), and the team lost 7-0.

He had a terrific start to 2021, winning the National League Rookie of the Month award for April after posting records of 3-1, 1.29, 38 strikeouts in 28 innings, and 5 starts.

In May, when he went 3-2, 2.34, and had another 38 strikeouts, he repeated as the award’s winner. He is Cody Ross’s cousin.
