Timothy Charles Wallach is a former professional baseball player and coach from the United States.
He was a third baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) for seventeen seasons, most notably with the Montreal Expos from 1980 to 1992.
Wallach was a five-time All-Star who excelled both on offense and defense, winning two Silver Slugger Awards and three Gold Glove Awards.
He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels, as well as coaching for the Dodgers and the Miami Marlins, in addition to the Expos.
Wallach was born in Huntington Park, California, and grew up in Orange County’s Tustin, where he attended University High School in Irvine.
During his freshman and sophomore years, he was a member of the school’s lower-level baseball team before being moved to the varsity team for his last two years.
Out of high school, Wallach was not picked by a major league team. He began his undergraduate baseball career at Saddleback College before transferring to California State University, Fullerton to play for the Titans.
In the 1978 Amateur World Series, Wallach was a member of the United States national baseball team. In the series, he hit.395/.455/.763, with 14 runs and RBIs, which were both second-most in the series.
In the competition, the United States came in second to Cuba.
Wallach was chosen to the all-tournament team and received the Golden Spikes Award after leading the Titans to their first Division I title at the College World Series in Omaha in 1979.
He was an All-American and was voted College Player of the Year by Sporting News.
