A six-year veteran backstop, Chad Wallach, was called upon by the Los Angeles Angels when their top two catchers were placed on the injured list.
Although Max Stassi has yet to receive an official injury designation or timeframe, he could be sidelined for the same amount of time as Kurt Suzuki.
When the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Wallach off waivers, the Angels picked his contract from their Triple-A affiliate.
In his first game for the Angels, Wallach was the catcher for Reid Detmers’ no-hitter and blasted a three-run home run himself to help the team take a commanding lead.
In addition, Chad Wallach became the fifth father-son combination in Angels history when he joined his father Tim Wallach as a player to don a Halos uniform in their career. In 1996, Tim Wallach made 57 appearances for the Angels.
Father-son teams before them include Ruben and Ruben Amaro, Chris and C.J. Cron, Jerry and Jeff DaVanon, and Bob and Darren Oliver.
To conclude his 17-year career, Tim Wallach requested his release from the team and signed with the Dodgers, where he would play the final two months of the season, before retiring from professional baseball.
Even if Chad Wallach leaves the Angels before Stassi and Suzuki return from the IL, his name will live on in the team’s history.
