For the month, Anthony Rendon had 36 hits, along with 17 runs and 20 RBIs, the most on the club. The rest of the season saw him hit .287/.351/.473 in 153 games with 39 doubles, 6 triples, and 21 home runs.
He had a fantastic year after that. After Ryan Zimmerman went down with an injury early in the season, he took over as the top run-scorer in the National League, winning the Silver Slugger Award as the league’s finest third baseman.
After his stellar first season back, the Nats moved Zimmerman to first base, where he remained for the remainder of the season.
Nationals outfielder Rendon was one of the few Nationals players to have a good night at the plate against the San Francisco Giants, going 7 for 19.
In spite of this, the Nats were ousted in four games due to a lack of productivity from the middle of the team’s lineup.
On March 9, 2015, Rendon injured his knee while playing third base in a spring training game. He was forced to begin the season on the injured list with no schedule for his recovery due to a more serious injury than originally suspected.
On June 4th, he eventually made his major league debut against the Chicago Cubs, going 2 for 4 with a double and a run batted in.
He slugged .264 with five home runs and 25 RBIs in 80 games that year. For the first time in his career, he appeared in all 156 games of the season, hitting .270 with 38 doubles and 20 homers, as well as 91 runs and 85 RBIs, in 2016.
The Nationals won the division, but he had a terrible season, going just 3 for 20 as they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Division Series.
