The K, or Kauffman Stadium, is a baseball stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. It is the home of Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals. It is part of the Truman Sports Complex, which also includes the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium.
During a time when multisport “cookie-cutter” stadiums were widespread, Kauffman Stadium was built exclusively for baseball. It is sometimes cited as one of the best instances of modernist stadium design, alongside Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium (1962). It is the only ballpark in the American League named after a person, as well as one of just nine parks in Major League Baseball without a business title.
The stadium, which opened in 1973 and hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 2012, as well as Royals home games during the 1980, 1985, 2014, and 2015 World Series, is the sixth-oldest in the majors.
