According to numerous sources, Justin Verlander has decided to re-sign with the Astros on a one-year, $25 million contract with a player option for a second season.
With a reconstructed elbow ligament, Verlander, who is 39 years old, is pitching as though his Tommy John surgery and aging are untrue. He is pitching as though it is still 2019. In his fifth start following the operation that robbed him nearly two entire seasons, Verlander has a 1.73 ERA.
Verlander, who plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball, was born on February 20, 1983. (MLB). He has also represented the Detroit Tigers in MLB.
He is from Manakin-Sabot in Virginia, attended Old Dominion University (ODU) and competed for the Monarchs in collegiate baseball. He set new career highs for strikeouts for the Monarchs and the Colonial Athletic Association.
Verlander was selected by the Tigers with the second overall choice in the 2004 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Tigers in 2005 and spent 12 years there as their ace starter and a pivotal member of their four-straight American League (AL) Central division title teams from 2011 to 2014.
Before the 2017 trade deadline, the Tigers traded Verlander to the Houston Astros, and he had a perfect record in his first five outings going into the postseason.
In addition to being voted ALCS MVP, he shared the Babe Ruth Award in 2017 as the Astros won the World Series.
