Forrest Whitley was drafted by the Houston Astros with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He had made a commitment to play collegiate baseball at Florida State University, but he ultimately chose to sign with the Astros.
On July 13, 2016, he was assigned to the Gulf Coast Astros of the Gulf Coast League’s Rookie Division. He was later promoted to the Greeneville Astros of the Appalachian League’s Rookie Division.
He pitched for 18+2/3 innings for both teams, recording a 1-2 record and a 4.82 earned run average (ERA).
American pitcher Charles Forrest Whitley currently plays for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on September 15, 1997, and is currently 24 years old.
Whitley started the 2017 campaign with the Class A Midwest League’s Quad Cities River Bandits. In July, he was promoted to the Class A-Advanced Carolina League’s Buies Creek Astros, then in August, to the Class AA Texas League’s Corpus Christi Hooks.
Whitley received a 50-game ban on February 21, 2018, for breaking MLB’s drug prevention and treatment program. Whitley was invited by the Astros to spring training in 2019, and he started the year with the Class AAA Pacific Coast Round Rock Express.
After the 2020 season, the Astros added Whitley to their 40-man roster.
