Yordan Ruben Alvarez is a Major League Baseball designated hitter and outfielder for the Houston Astros.
For the Astros in 2019, he made his MLB debut. Alvarez, dubbed “Air Yordan,” measures 6 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 225 pounds, and bats and throws left-handed.
Alvarez spent two seasons with Las Tunas in the Cuban National Series prior to coming to the United States.
In 2016, he emigrated from Cuba to Haiti, where he first signed as an international free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Before making his professional debut, Houston acquired him through trade from the Dodgers in 2016.
After earning the greatest slugging percentage (.655) by a qualified rookie in MLB history, he was unanimously awarded American League (AL) Rookie of the Year in 2019.
Alvarez was selected the 2021 American League Championship Series MVP after missing all but two games of the truncated 2020 season due to injury.

For the Leadores de Las Tunas, Yordan lvarez played two seasons in the Cuban National Series (CNS).
He batted .351 in his second season, 2014–15, and had one double and one home run in 40 games and 125 plate appearances, ranking second on the Lenadores.
