Mookie Betts, real name Markus Lynn “Mookie” Betts is one of the professional baseball right fielders who are currently a part of the Major Leagues and plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. Mookie grew up in Nashville in the USA where he was born and where he had his high school education.
He attended John Overton High School in Nashville. He played baseball for the school’s baseball team. After high school, he had wanted to play college baseball at the University of Tennessee but after the Boston Red Sox selected him in the 5th round draft, he decided to sign with them instead of going to college.
He received a signing bonus of $750,000 from the Red Sox after which he was assigned to play for the GCL Red Sox of the rookie Gulf Coast League to make his professional debut. He spent the 2012 minor league season playing for the Lowell Spinners of the New York–Penn League. He was with the Greenville Drive of the Low A South Atlantic League in the 2013 season.
The Red Sox promoted him to the major leagues in 2014 and he made his MLB debut on June 29 2014 for the Red Sox. He was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in February 2020 and he has been with the Dodgers to date.
