Tyler Michael Thornburg is a Major League Baseball pitcher who currently pitches for the Atlanta Braves. He played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox, and Cincinnati Reds in the past.
Thornburg started playing little league baseball at the age of 12 for the Sandy Springs All-Stars, who won the Georgia state championship and advanced to the Little League World Series Southeast Regional final in 2001.
Thornburg was a member of the baseball team at Riverwood High School in Sandy Springs, Georgia. He went on to play collegiate baseball with the Buccaneers of the Big South Conference in NCAA Division I.
Thornburg was a pitcher as well as an outfielder for the Buccaneers. Thornburg playing collegiate summer baseball for the Winchester Royals of the Valley Baseball League in Virginia in 2008, and was chosen to the league’s First Team with a 1.48 ERA in 24+13 innings pitched.
During the summer of 2009, he was a member of the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League. Thornburg earned Big South Pitcher of the Week honors twice in 2010.
Thornburg was signed by the Brewers and pitched in the Rookie-level Pioneer League for the Helena Brewers in 2010.
Thornburg started the 2011 season with the Class A Midwest League’s Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, then was promoted to the Class A-Advanced Florida State League’s Brevard County Manatees (FSL).
Thornburg pitched for the Timber Rattlers in the Midwest League All-Star Game, posting a 7–0 record and 1.50 earned run average (ERA).
