Third-round pick O’Neill was drafted by Seattle Mariners in 2013. Following his signing, he was assigned to the Mariners’ Arizona League affiliate, where he made his professional baseball debut with the Mariners.
Only 51 games were played between the Arizona League Mariners, Everett AquaSox, and Clinton LumberKings in 2014 because of a broken bone in his right hand that he sustained after punching a concrete wall in the outfield.
In 2015, he played for the Bakersfield Blaze and hit .260 with 32 home runs and 87 RBIs. At the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, O’Neill represented Canada.
He also competed in the 2015 World Baseball Softball Championship Premier12. Canada beat the United States 7–6 in extra innings to win the gold medal in the 2015 Pan American Games final.
He batted .293 with 24 home runs and 102 RBIs for the Jackson Generals of the Southern League in 2016.
