Riley Chun-Young O’Brien, professionally called Riley O’Brien is an American born professional baseball player with the Seattle Mariners baseball team of Major League Baseball(MLB). Riley is 1.93 m tall.
During the 2017 MLB draft, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 8th round of the draft. He signed with the Rays and made his professional debut that year after he was assigned to play with the Princeton Rays of the Advanced Rookie Appalachian League.
During his time in the Appalachian league, he was named Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week twice. Riley started the 2018 season with the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Class A Midwest League with whom he was named an All-Star.
He was promoted to the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League that same season in 2018. In 2019, he spent the season with the Charlotte Stone Crabs and was promoted to the Montgomery Biscuits of the Class AA Southern League in May that year.
Riley did not play a minor league game in 2020 due to the cancellation of the minor league season caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2020, the Rays traded him to the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds added him to their 40-man roster in November 2020. He made his MLB debut in September 2021 with the Reds.
He was traded to the Seattle Mariners in April 2022 and he has been with them since.
