Michael Christopher Moustakas is a Major League Baseball infielder for the Cincinnati Reds.
He formerly played for the Royals of Kansas City and the Brewers of Milwaukee. The Royals selected Moustakas in the first round of the 2007 MLB draft.
During games, he is frequently addressed as “Moose,” a moniker bestowed by his little league coach, as well as spectators and the media.
Moustakas was a four-year starter in baseball at Chatsworth High School in Chatsworth, Los Angeles, California.
He led Chatsworth to a 124–11 record during that period, winning four West Valley League wins and two California Interscholastic Federation city titles.
Cal-Hi Sports named Moustakas “Player of the Year” in both his sophomore and junior seasons. His 52 career home runs in high school set a state record for California prep baseball.
Moustakas tried to be a two-sport athlete for Chatsworth, but a fractured ankle suffered in his first game as the Chancellors’ quarterback terminated his high school football career and nearly destroyed his baseball career.
Moustakas, on the other hand, was able to return to baseball after three months of recuperation.
Moustakas was a member of the Junior National Team of the United States of America in 2006, competing in the World Junior Championships in Cuba.
