The St. Louis Cardinals signed Solano as an international free agent in 2005. A backup infielder for the Cardinals for seven seasons, he never made it to the big leagues.

He was an All-Star in the Class A-Advanced Florida State League with the Palm Beach Cardinals in 2008. A non-roster invite was extended to Solano by the Miami Marlins in 2012.

As a result, Solano was sent to the New Orleans Zephyrs of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League, where he contended with Donnie Murphy for a reserve infielder position.

On May 20, 2012, the Marlins promoted him to the major leagues for the first time, making him the 12th player of Colombian descent to do so by the age of 24. He made his major league debut on May 23rd, 2012, by a single.
