Kyle Gibson is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers.
Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) declared that Gibson could not participate for Greenfield-Central High School’s high school baseball team for one season following his transfer from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis to Greenfield-Central High School.
He led the Cougars to a sectional championship and the regional championships as a junior, with a record of 7–2. He finished 8-6 with a 0.98 ERA and 140 strikeouts in his senior year.
He pitched all of Greenfield’s games in the tournament and was the winning pitcher for the club. After his senior year, he was recognized as the top player in Hancock County.
In both his junior and senior years, he was selected to the Indianapolis Star All-East team. He was selected All-East Player of the Year and a member of the Indiana All-Star team after his senior year.
Baseball’s Philadelphia Phillies drafted Gibson 36th overall in the 2006 MLB Draft, but he declined to sign with them. For college, he chose the Missouri Tigers, where he was the team’s No. 2 starter, following Aaron Crow.
