Joseph Abel Romero is an American professional baseball pitcher who now plays for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball. Romero was born on September 9, 1996, in the United States.
Romero was the first of three children, and was the oldest of the three when he was born on September 9, 1996, in Camarillo, California.
The fact that he was able to witness his father compete in a baseball league in Southern California was a major motivating factor for him to take up the sport himself.
Oxnard High School, located in Oxnard, California, was Romero’s high school of choice. He finished his junior year in 2013 with a record of 10–2 along with a batting average. of 308 and an earned run average of 1.24.
After high school, Romero continued his baseball career by attending the University of Nevada and Yavapai College. In the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, Romero was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the fourth round (107th selection overall).
During the 2017 season, Romero pitched for both the Lakewood BlueClaws and the Clearwater Threshers. He finished the year with a combined record of 10–3 (W–L), a 2.16 earned run average, and 128 strikeouts.
In 2018, he finished with a record of 7–6, a 3.80 earned run average, and 100 strikeouts in 106.2 innings pitched. In 2019, he will represent the Scottsdale Scorpions in the Arizona Fall League, which is a professional baseball tournament. Romero was included on the Philadelphia Phillies’ 40-man roster on the 20th of November, 2019.
