Garrett Stubbs, a Houston Astros prospect, is used to being promoted from one level to the next during the regular season.

Learning a new staff on the fly can be difficult for a catcher, but he had the opportunity to do it in each of the past two seasons.

 

The Astros waited until August to promote their 13th-ranked prospect to the Fresno Grizzlies this season.

In 2015, Stubbs was drafted in the eighth round out of Southern California. That summer, he played 11 games for Class A Short Season Tri-City before moving up to Class A Quad Cities for 25 games.

Stubbs was promoted from Class A Advanced Lancaster (55 games) to Corpus Christi in 2016. (31 games).

 

Stubbs hit .304/.391/.469 last season, but has hit .243/.339/.334 this year with four home runs and 35 RBIs between his two stops.

 

What Happened Garrett Stubbs?

The Astros traded Stubbs to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league center fielder Logan Cerny on November 19, 2021.

Stubbs had a great defensive reputation at the time, with a 41 percent caught-stealing rate in his pro career and strong framing statistics in his minor league career, according to Baseball Prospectus.

 

Stubbs hit his first career Major League home run against the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 22, 2022, off pitcher Tony Gonsolin.
