24-year-old Rony Garcia was born on December 19, 1997, he is a Major League Baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers from the Dominican Republic. In 2020, he made his MLB debut.
On July 2, 2015, Garcia signed as an international free agent with the New York Yankees. He pitched for the DSL Yankees and the GCL Yankees in 2016, posting a 3–5 win–loss record and a 2.28 earned run average (ERA) in 71 innings thrown.
He pitched for the Pulaski Yankees and the Charleston RiverDogs during the 2017 season, going 2–3 with a 2.50 ERA in 75+23 innings.
He pitched for the Charleston Riverdogs and the Tampa Tarpons in 2018, going 4–9 with a 4.31 ERA in 119 innings. He pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Trenton Thunder in 2019, going 4–13 with a 4.01 ERA in 130 innings.
The Detroit Tigers picked Garcia with the first overall pick in the 2019 Rule 5 draft on December 12, 2019.
On July 28, 2020, Garcia made his major league debut, pitching three innings and allowing three runs. Garcia pitched in 15 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2020, posting a 1–0 record with an 8.14 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 21 innings thrown.
