Rony Garcia is a Dominican pitcher who pitches for the Detroit Tigers in Major League Baseball. He is 6 feet 3 inches tall and was born on December 19, 1997. He made his Major League Baseball debut in 2020.
Garcia signed with the New York Yankees as an international free agent on July 2, 2015. In 2016, he pitched for the DSL Yankees and the GCL Yankees, going 3–5 with a 2.28 earned run average (ERA) in 71 innings pitched.
During the 2017 season, he pitched for the Pulaski Yankees and the Charleston RiverDogs, going 2–3 with a 2.50 ERA in 75+23 innings.
In 2018, he went 4–9 with a 4.31 ERA in 119 innings for the Charleston Riverdogs and the Tampa Tarpons. In 2019, he threw 130 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays and Trenton Thunder, finishing 4–13 with a 4.01 ERA.
The Detroit Tigers picked Garcia with the first overall pick in the 2019 Rule 5 draft on December 12, 2019. On July 28, 2020, Garcia made his major league debut, pitching three innings and allowing three runs. Garcia pitched in 15 games for the 2020 Detroit Tigers, posting a 1–0 record with an 8.14 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 21 innings thrown.
Due to an appendectomy, Garcia missed spring training in 2021 and began the season with the Toledo Mud Hens. On May 30, the Tigers promoted him to the major leagues. Garcia was put on the 60-day disabled list on June 15 due to a left knee strain.
