Alex Craig Lange (born October 2, 1995) is a professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. He attended Louisiana State University and played baseball there (LSU). The Chicago Cubs selected him with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft.
When Lange was a baby, he was adopted. He graduated from Lee’s Summit West High School in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, with a 4.0 weighted GPA.
Lange was selected Missouri Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year as a senior (2014). Many NCAA Division I universities scouted him, but he opted to attend Louisiana State University (LSU).
Lange was picked by the Chicago Cubs with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He signed with the Cubs and was sent to the Eugene Emeralds of the Class A-Short Season Northwest League, where he compiled a 0–1 record with a 4.82 ERA in 9 3 innings thrown.
Lange was listed as Chicago’s sixth-best prospect heading into the 2018 season by MLB.com. He pitched for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans of the Class-A Advanced Carolina League in 2018, going 6-8 with a 3.74 ERA in 23 starts. Lange began 2019 with a return to Myrtle Beach.
