Tarik Skubal is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB).
First professional season: Skubal had a 3–0 record and 0.40 ERA in 22.1 innings with the Gulf Coast Tigers, Connecticut Tigers, and West Michigan Whitecaps.
He was a member of the Lakeland Flying Tigers at the beginning of the year. A call-up to the Erie SeaWolves was made on July 5 after an impressive year of play.
During his first three starts with Erie, he had a 0.56 ERA, with 34 strikeouts and only five hits allowed in sixteen innings of work.
He rose from a preseason 20th place in the Tigers’ organization to a midseason 4th place in the MLB.com 2019 Prospect Watch as a result of his success this season.
As a Double-A pitcher, his last season stats read: 2–3; 2.13; 1.02; and an opponent’s batting average off him was just.168. Skubal struck out 179 batters in just 122+23 innings in 2019 (across two minor league levels).
