All Washington Football Team Retired Jersey Numbers – How many numbers have the Washington Football Team retired?

Washington Football Team

In addition to the two numbers that have been formally retired, the Washington Football Team now has 10 other numbers that have been taken out of circulation. The following are the only ones that have never been worn during a regular-season game since the player who was associated with them retired.

All Washington Football Team Retired Jersey Numbers

Sonny Jurgensen, No. 9 (1974)

Sean Taylor (No. 21) (2007)

Darrell Green, No. 28 (2002)

Charley Taylor (no. 42) (1977)

Larry Brown, No. 43 (1976)

John Riggins, No. 44 (1985)

Dave Butz, No. 65 (1988)

Art Monk, No. 81 (1993)

Two more haven’t been seen in a regular-season game in at least a decade and are effectively out of production. They are as follows:

Kenny Houston, No. 27 (1980)

Sam Huff (no. 70) (1969)

Joe Theismann’s No. 7 was retired until it was given to Dwayne Haskins in 2019 with Theismann’s blessing. It was the first jersey number to be retired by the team. The next jersey retired after number 7  is Sonny Jurgensen, No. 9 (1974), followed by Larry Brown, No. 43 (1976), Charley Taylor (no. 42) (1977), John Riggins, No. 44 (1985), Dave Butz, No. 65 (1988), Art Monk, No. 81 (1993), Darrell Green, No. 28 (2002) and Sean Taylor (No. 21) (2007).

I did not include Kenny Houston, No. 27 (1980) and Sam Huff (no. 70) (1969) in my list because even though the numbers are no more in use and are currently out of the seasons, they have not been formally retired.
