Derek Stingley is an American football coach who was born on April 9, 1971. He played in the Arena Football League for nine years prior to becoming a coach.
Stingley also played college baseball at Triton College and was drafted as a centre fielder by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1993 Major League Baseball Draft.
He spent three seasons in their minor-league system (1993–1995). On August 12, 1978, Stingley’s father, Darryl Stingley, a wide receiver with the New England Patriots, was paralyzed after being struck by Oakland Raiders safety Jack Tatum in a preseason game.
In 1989, Stingley enrolled at Purdue University with plans to play football and baseball. At only 5′ 10″ and 150 pounds, he quickly realized that he would be unable to compete in the Big Ten Conference.
As a result, he dropped out of Purdue and enrolled in two junior institutions in Illinois instead. he graduated from Triton College, where he studied business administration.
Stingley is Darryl and Tina Stingley’s youngest child. As of right now, he and his wife Natasha and their four children — Isis, Nahjha, Derek Jr., and Sanaa are making their home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.” He currently serves as the head football coach at The Dunham School for students in grades 7–8.
