After a car accident earlier this week that left her vehicle in flames, US actress Anne Heche’s family has stated that she is not expected to survive. She has a serious anoxic brain injury, which occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen, according to reports. She is still in a coma.
“We want to thank everyone for their good thoughts and prayers for Anne’s recovery,” they said. “We also want to thank the hardworking staff and great nurses.”
Last week, her car collided with a two-story house in Los Angeles. Although additional testing was required to rule out any medications supplied in the hospital, the police reported on Friday that early blood tests had shown the presence of drugs in her system.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident is being looked at as a traffic accident involving felony drunken driving. The mother of two, 53, has been in a number of movies, such as Donnie Brasco, Cedar Rapids, and the 1998 Psycho remake.
She also starred in Volcano, Prozac Nation, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Six Days, Seven Nights, and Harrison Ford in Volcano. For her work in Another World, she received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1991 for outstanding younger actress in a drama series.
She also made appearances on Ally McBeal, Save Me, Aftermath, Hung, Chicago P.D., and Men in Trees, among other TV series. Heche has also participated in Strictly Come Dancing’s American equivalent, Dancing with the Stars.
She dated talk show presenter Ellen DeGeneres in the late 1990s and is now an ex-partner with her. In 1998, Heche made an appearance in one of the star’s Ellen episodes.
Heche’s car “erupted in intense fire” after it was driven 30 feet (9.1 meters) into the home, according to the LA Fire Department, rendering the building “uninhabitable.”
Her family claimed in a statement that she is receiving treatment at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills Hospital and is currently on life support while doctors assess if her organs are viable for donation.
