Pam Veasey and Marvin Williams welcomed their son Avery Williams into the world on July 15, 1998. He started high school at Saint Francis in Pasadena, California, and transferred to JSerra Catholic High School before his final year.
Williams was an All-Area selection at defensive back and co-Most Valuable Player of the Trinity League as a senior after rushing for 1,175 yards and 14 offensive touchdowns. He was awarded a preferred walk-on spot on the Boise State football team despite not receiving any scholarship offers to play college football.

Williams started at cornerback, took over as the team’s punt and kick returner, and finished with two interceptions and eight pass breakups during his redshirt freshman season.
He was named second-team All-Mountain West Conference and returned two punts for scores.
Williams, a redshirt sophomore, was named to the Mountain West Honor Roll for his 49 tackles, 11 passes deflected, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and touchdown return on a kickoff.
