American football quarterback Baker Reagan Mayfield plays for the National Football League’s Carolina Panthers. Mayfield played collegiate football at Oklahoma, where he earned the Heisman Trophy as a senior, after a stay with Texas Tech.
He was born in Austin, Texas, in the United States, on April 14, 1995. Growing up, Mayfield was a big Oklahoma Sooners supporter, and he frequently went to their games. For the Austin Lake Travis High School Cavaliers football team, Mayfield started as a quarterback. In two seasons, he guided Lake Travis to a 25-2 record and the 2011 4A State Championship.
He accumulated 6,255 passing yards, 67 touchdowns, and eight interceptions throughout his high school football career. In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns picked Baker Mayfield as the first overall choice. On July 24, 2018, Mayfield agreed to a four-year rookie contract with the Browns, which included a $32.68 million guaranteed salary.
In Week 3’s contest against the New York Jets, Mayfield entered the field in place of an injured Tyrod Taylor with the Browns behind 14-0. Mayfield completed 17 of his 23 passes for 201 yards as the Browns rallied to win 21-17, snapping a 19-game winless streak. Since Fran Tarkenton in 1961, Mayfield is the first player to make his debut off the bench and throw for more than 200 yards.
On April 23, 2021, the Browns chose to exercise Mayfield’s fifth-year contract option for the 2022 campaign, which came with a guaranteed $18.9 million. Mayfield was transferred to the Carolina Panthers on July 6, 2022, in exchange for a conditional 2024 fifth-round draft pick.
