An American actress, comedian, singer, and novelist by the name of Bette Midler. Prior to her performances in Fiddler on the Roof and Salvation on Broadway in the late 1960s, she started her professional career in a number of off-off-Broadway productions. She first gained notoriety in 1970 when she started singing at the Continental Baths, a nearby gay bathhouse where she was able to develop a devoted fan base.
