Big Brother Naija, formerly known as Big Brother Nigeria, is a Nigerian reality competition television series based on the Big Brother television franchise.
Contestants compete for a sizable cash prize and other material prizes at the end of the show by avoiding being kicked out of the house by viewers who vote for their favorite housemates to stay on the show.
From 5 March to 4 June 2006, M-Net and DStv Channel 37 broadcast the inaugural season of the program. The Alexander-Forbes auditing firm independently confirmed the voting results.
From 5 March to 4 June 2006, the first season of the program debuted on DStv Channel 37. On Day 23, the game took a surprising turn with the introduction of two new players, much to the delight of the surviving housemates.
Ebuka was the seventh housemate to be booted out, and many people blame Joe’s Fan Club (JFC) for it. Ebuka had been the most popular housemate for a few weeks into the competition and was generally expected to win. Soon after, Joe was eliminated from the competition.
On Day 79, Big Brother added another twist to the game by postponing the day’s scheduled nominations and tricking the housemates into thinking they would be eliminated based on how well they performed on their tasks.
In reality, no more evictions were held, and viewers started voting for the winner, who turned out to be 26-year-old Katung Aduwak.
