Blake Ashton Snell (born December 4, 1992) is an MLB pitcher for the San Diego Padres.
He debuted in Major League Baseball (MLB) in 2016 with the Tampa Bay Rays and won the American League (AL) Cy Young Award in 2018 when he was an All-Star and led the league in wins and earned run average (ERA).
In the first round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, the Tampa Bay Rays selected Snell.
He signed with the Rays and debuted with the Gulf Coast Rays, going 1–2 with a 3.08 ERA in 11 games (eight starts).
He went 5–1 with a 2.09 ERA in 11 starts for the Princeton Rays in 2012, and 4–9 with a 4.27 ERA in 23 games for the Bowling Green Hot Rods in 2013.
Snell was traded to the San Diego Padres on December 29, 2020, in exchange for prospects Luis Patino, Blake Hunt, and Cole Wilcox, as well as catcher Francisco Meja.
Snell was the Padres’ number two pitcher this season. In 2021, Snell regressed a little, finishing with a 7-6 record and a 4.20 ERA in 27 starts.
Due to an attack of food poisoning, Snell missed a pair of starts during the summer.
Due to left adductor stiffness, he left his September 12 start early. The next day, he was placed on the IL, and he was never seen again.
