Bob Newhart is an American actor and comedian born as George Robert Newhart to Julia Pauline and George David Newhart in Austin, Chicago, Illinois on September 5, 1929.
He was educated at St Catherine of Siena Grammar School and St Ignatius College Prep School as a Roman Catholic. He changed his name to Bob when he was in high school.
After graduating from high school in 1947, he enrolled at Loyola University of Chicago to pursue a degree in business administration. In 1952, he received his diploma from the same institution.
He served in the US Army as a personnel manager in the Korean War for two years following graduation.
He was relieved of his duties in 1954 and went on to work as an accountant, then as an advertising copywriter in 1958. He enjoyed writing radio comedy routines as a hobby.
