Brandon Crawford is an American professional baseball shortstop for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). Crawford played college baseball for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Crawford was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the fourth round of the 2008 MLB draft, with the 117th overall selection, and signed for a $375,000 signing bonus.
When Crawford made his professional debut in 2009, he was playing for the San Jose Giants of Class-A Advanced. A slugging percentage of 600 and an on-base percentage of 1.045 were his results in 25 games, in which he hit.371.
Crawford was promoted to the Double-A Connecticut Defenders in May and played the remainder of the season there, where he batted.258 with four home runs in 108 games.
As a member of the Richmond Flying Squirrels of the Double-A Eastern League in 2010, Crawford hit.241 in 79 games before breaking his hand in early July and missing nearly two months of the season.
When he was well enough, he was sent back to San Jose for the rest of the season. Baseball America has him pegged as the Giants’ no. 6 prospect going into 2011.
