Brittney Griner is an American professional basketball player for the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball for the Baylor Lady Bears in Waco, Texas.
In college basketball, she is the only athlete to score 2,000 points and block 500 shots. She was voted AP Player of the Year and Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 2012, making her an All-American for the third time in her career.
The Rivals.com national high school women’s basketball player of the year award was given to Griner in 2009. An All-American basketball team selected her for the Phoenix Mercury in 2009.
She won the ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete in 2012 for her achievements. Earlier this year, Griner secured an endorsement agreement with Nike. Griner is a 6’9″ (206 cm) tall man with an arm span of 87.5 inches (US men’s size 17 shoe) (222 cm).
Griner was a member of the U.S. women’s Olympic team in 2016 and guided them to Olympic gold in Rio. When the national anthem was played at the start of NBA games in 2020, Griner said she would not be on the floor.
To prepare for the 2020 Olympics, Griner was named to her second Olympic squad in 2021, this time representing the United States.
