His youngest brother Josh is a wide receiver with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, and his other brother Jerreth Sterns also plays wide receiver. His oldest brother Jordan played safety for Oklahoma State from 2013 to 2016.

Jerreth played at Houston Baptist University before transferring to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for his final season so he could play with quarterback Bailey Zappe, another member of his squad.
