According to a report made on October 21st, 2021, Labour MP Chris Matheson is in danger of being suspended from the House of Commons for a period of four weeks because of “unwanted and unwelcome sexual approaches.”
Since 2015, Christian Matheson has served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of Chester constituency.
It has been said of him that he holds “ideas that are slightly left of centre” and that he is a supporter of the Labour Party.
Christian Matheson’s childhood was spent in the countryside of Cheshire. He received his education at Manchester Grammar School and then went on to earn a degree in economics and politics from the London School of Economics.
In June 2013, the Labour Party made the decision to nominate Chris Matheson as their candidate for the seat of Parliament representing the City of Chester.
After the general election that took place on May 7, 2015, he defeated the Conservative candidate Stephen Mosley and won the seat with a majority of 93 votes.
This gave him the third-smallest majority of any parliamentary constituency in the UK after the election. He was appointed to the position of member of the Commons Culture, Media, and Sport Committee in July 2015.
On June 27, 2016, Matheson resigned from his position as Parliamentary Private Secretary for the Department of Justice.
During the leadership election for the Labour Party (UK) in 2016, he proposed Owen Smith as a candidate for the position of leader.
At the election in 2017, he extended his advantage from 93 to 9,176, transforming Chester from a seat that was extremely close to being won into a position that is safely held.
In the election that took place in 2019, he was victorious in keeping his seat by a margin of 6,164 votes over his opponent.
