Chris Matheson, a member of Parliament for Chester, tendered his resignation after an inquiry was conducted by a Parliamentary inspector into allegations of “severe sexual misconduct.”

Christian Matheson has been the City of Chester constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP) since 2015. He is a fan of the Labour Party and has “views that are slightly left of centre.”

Cheshire’s rural areas served as homes for Christian Matheson’s early years. He got his early education at Manchester Grammar School and then went to the London School of Economics to get a degree in economics and politics.

The Labour Party decided to put Chris Matheson forward as their candidate for the seat in Parliament representing the City of Chester in June 2013.

He won the seat with a majority of 93 votes after the general election on May 7, 2015, defeating the Conservative contender Stephen Mosley.

As a result, after the election, he had the third-smallest majority of any parliamentary constituency in the UK. In July 2015, he was chosen to serve as a member of the Commons Committee on Culture, Media, and Sport.

Matheson left his role as the Department of Justice’s Parliamentary Private Secretary on June 27, 2016. He suggested Owen Smith as a contender for the leadership of the Labour Party (UK) during the 2016 leadership election.

At the 2017 election, he increased his lead from 93 to 9,176, turning Chester from a seat that was dangerously close to being won into one that is currently held with confidence.

By a margin of 6,164 votes over his rival, he won the election that took place in 2019 and retained his seat.
