In 2018, the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm welcomed Paddack back to the mound. It took him 52 innings with the Storm before he was promoted to the minor league San Antonio Missions.
Pitching to an ERA of just 1.91 in 38 innings for the Missions before being shut down due to innings restrictions, he was even better. His name was later added to the Padres’ 40-man roster.

As a result, he was optioned to Lake Elsinore on June 12, 2019, in order to reduce the number of innings he pitched this season. On June 22, he was recalled.
