Clyde Edwards-Helaire was born on April 11, 1999, and he is a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League in the United States of America. He played college football for Louisiana State University and was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Edwards-Helaire was born and reared in Baton Rouge. As a freshman at Catholic High School, he made history by being the first freshman to play on the varsity football team in the school’s 29-year history under then-head coach Dale Weiner.
Edwards-Helaire was also a member of the track and field team, in addition to football. The Bears defeated Archbishop Rummel High School, 31–28, in the 5A State Championship Game, in which Edwards-Helaire rushed 58 times for 496 yards and ten touchdowns.
He was named the MVP of the 5A State Championship Game after catching eight passes for 161 yards and rushing for 88 yards and a touchdown. As a four-star recruiting prospect, Edwards-Helaire has committed to play collegiate football for the Louisiana State University Jaguars.
When Edwards-Helaire was a true freshman, he appeared in all 13 of the Tigers’ games, largely on special teams, and rushed nine times for 31 yards. It was in his sophomore season that Edwards-Helaire surpassed all but one of his teammates in terms of rushing yards and scores, with 658, while also hauling in 11 passes for 96 yards and returning 17 kickoffs for another 416 yards.
