Cooper Criswell is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2021 for the Los Angeles Angels. Criswell spent his childhood in Carrollton, Georgia, where he also received his high school education.
Southern Union State Community College was where Criswell got his start in baseball at the collegiate level. He finished his sophomore year with a record of 10-1 and a 2.54 earned run average (ERA). He also made the decision to continue his academic career at the University of North Carolina.
Criswell finished his one and only season with the Tar Heels with a record of 6-2, an earned run average of 2.99, and 86 strikeouts in 75 and a third innings pitched.
During the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft, the Los Angeles Angels chose Criswell to be their player in the 13th round of selections.
The next year, he entered the workforce for the first time, signing on with the Inland Empire 66ers, a team in the Class A-Advanced California League.
