Dennis Duane “D. J.” Reed Jr. (born November 11, 1996) plays cornerback for the National Football League’s New York Jets. In the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected him out of Kansas State.
In the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Reed was selected by the San Francisco 49ers. Reed played in Super Bowl LIV during his second season, but the 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 31–20.
On July 28, 2020, the first day of training camp, he was added to the active/non-football injury list. On August 4, 2020, he was released from the list with a non-football injury designation.
The Seattle Seahawks took Reed off waivers on August 5, 2020. Prior to being activated on October 31, 2020, he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on September 5, 2020, the first day of the regular season.
Following Quinton Dunbar’s injury, he filled in at the right cornerback. During a 37-27 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8, Reed made his first career interception.
In a 20-15 victory over the Washington Football Team in Week 15, he made a second interception. Even when Dunbar was fit, Reed continued to start because of his great performance the rest of the season.
Reed agreed to a three-year, $33 million deal with the New York Jets on March 17, 2022.
