Cody James Bellinger is a Major League Baseball outfielder and first baseman for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the United States.
He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB draft by the Dodgers, and he made his MLB debut in 2017.
Bellinger, the son of MLB star Clay Bellinger, was 11 years old when he helped his team reach the Little League World Series in 2007.
He had committed to play collegiate baseball for the Oregon Ducks before being picked, and he played high school baseball for Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona.
Bellinger played in the Rookie Leagues for two years before joining the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2015, where he was a mid-and postseason all-star and helped the team win the California League championship.
His progress through the Dodgers’ farm system was slowed by a hip injury in 2016, but he was promoted to the major leagues in April 2017 to help fortify a struggling outfield.
Bellinger was named the National League (NL) Rookie of the Year after setting a number of Dodgers single-season home run records.
He also played in the 2017 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby.
Following an extra-innings walk-off single that helped propel the Dodgers to the 2018 World Series, he was voted the MVP of the 2018 National League Championship Series.
In 2019, he won the National League MVP, Silver Slugger Award, and Gold Glove Award, as well as his second All-Star selection.
With the Dodgers, Bellinger won his first World Series title in 2020.
However, injuries to his shoulder, calf, and rib cage prompted Bellinger to have his worst year in terms of home runs and batting average in 2021.
