Penny Mordaunt is a British politician who has been serving as Minister of State for Trade Policy since 2021. A member of the Conservative Party, she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing Portsmouth North since 2010.
Mordaunt received an upper second class honors degree in philosophy from the University of Reading, where he studied and graduated in 1995. She was the first person in her family to go to college and she did so at a prestigious institution.
Mordaunt was involved in student government at Reading University and held the position of president of the Reading University Students’ Union.
Following graduating, Mordaunt pursued a career that primarily involved public relations work in a variety of fields.
She served as the Conservative Party’s Head of Youth during the tenure of former Prime Minister John Major. Subsequently, she served as the Conservative Party’s Head of Broadcasting during the tenure of former Party Leader William Hague (1999–2001).
Between the years 1997 and 1999, she held the position of communications specialist with the Freight Transport Association, which is now known as Logistics UK. She held the position of Head of Foreign Press for the presidential campaign of George W. Bush in 2000 for a short period of time.
Between the years 2001 and 2003, she held the position of Communications Director for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. After leaving that position, she went on to establish a new Anglo-American website under the name “virtualconservatives.”
