The Tampa Bay Rays selected pitcher Drew Strotman in the fourth round of the 2017 amateur draft out of Saint Mary’s College of California.

From 2017 to 2021, he was a member of the Rays’ organization, missing the 2020 season due to the Coronavirus outbreak, which forced the minor leagues to close.

During that time, he advanced to AAA, where he began the 2021 season with the Triple-A East Durham Bulls.

Except for a pair of relief appearances for the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Penn League in his debut professional season, he was entirely a starter.

However, an injury knocked him back in 2019, limiting him to just 9 games and 24 innings, four of which were rehab appearances with the GCL Rays.

On July 22, 2021, he was traded to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for DH Nelson Cruz and P Calvin Faucher, as well as P Joe Ryan, who was competing for the United States at the Tokyo Olympics at the time.

He concluded the season with the St. Paul Saints, a team in the same league as Durham, going 10-5, 5.29 in 25 games between the two teams.

In 2022, he returned to St. Paul for the school year. However, he struggled as a reliever, with a 9.49 ERA in his first eight appearances.
