Infielder for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball, Eugenio Alejandro Suárez is from Venezuela. On October 9, 2008, Suárez agreed to a contract with the Detroit Tigers as an amateur free agent.
In 2009 and 2010, he participated in the Venezuelan Summer League Tigers. In 2011, he was a member of the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League, the Gulf Coast Tigers of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League, and the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Class A Midwest League. In 2012, he was a member of the West Michigan Whitecaps.
He began the 2013 campaign with the Class A-Advanced Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Florida State League before being promoted to the Class AA Eastern League’s Erie SeaWolves during the year. On November 20, 2013, he was added to the Tigers’ 40-man roster. On June 4, 2014, he played his first MLB game for the Detroit Tigers.
The Tigers dealt Suárez to the Cincinnati Reds on December 11, 2014. Suárez and the Cincinnati Reds agreed to a seven-year, $66 million contract in March 2018. He was selected for the MLB All-Star Game in 2018. He was chosen for the MLB All-Stars on September 10, 2018, at the MLB Japan All-Star Series.
The Reds traded him to the Seattle Mariners in March 2022.
