Framber Valdez is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. He was born on November 19, 1993. In 2015, Valdez joined the Astros as an unrestricted foreign free agent. He debuted in the MLB in 2018.
Framber Valdez was born in Palenque in the Dominican Republic’s San Cristóbal Province. He began pitching at the age of 16. On March 19, 2015, Valdez agreed to a $10,000 signing bonus with the Houston Astros as an international free agent.
He was five years older at age 21 than the majority of amateur free agency signings from his nation. After a long day of watching programs run by independent trainers, two Astros scouts recognized him. After only six pitches, they gave him the opportunity to try out for their Dominican academy close to Guayacanes.
Valdez made his professional debut in 2015 with the DSL Astros, going 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA over 36+2/3 innings. He divided the 2016 campaign between the Greeneville Astros, Tri-City ValleyCats, Quad Cities River Bandits, and Lancaster JetHawks.
On August 21, 2018, the Astros first promoted Valdez to the major leagues. On that day, he made his debut and won after pitching for 4 + 1 + 3 innings. In 37 innings with Houston in 2018, he had a 4–1 record and a 2.19 ERA.
In place of Los Angeles Angels two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani, Valdez made his debut as an Opening Day starter on April 7, 2022.
