The Venezuela native was signed by the Phillies in 2016 at the age of 16 for a reported $900,000 and played in the Florida Instructional League that year.
The following year, he made his regular-season minor league debut with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Phillies, earning a 3-2 record in 10 games with a 3.05 ERA, a.225 batting average against, and a 9.6 K/9 rate (nine starts).
The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder was promoted to the Class A short-season New York-Penn League in 2018. Morales had a 4-5 record with a 5.27 ERA, a.244 batting average against, and a 10.9 K/9 rate in 13 starts for Williamsport.
Morales finished his regular season with five strong starts, posting a 2.91 ERA in the process.
He also had a career-high 11 strikeouts in a six-inning win over State College on August 21 at home.
